Guntur MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao opposes and expressed its objection to the proposed laying of a bypass road to Chilakaluripet. Rayapati Sambasiva was behind the cancellation of the bypass.

Tension prevailed at the Adda Road Centre in Chilakaluripet in Guntur district on Friday as clashes erupted between bypass favouring committee and bypass opposing committee over the upgradation of the existing four-lane highway into a six-lane road.

The members of the bypass favouring committee disrupted the survey taken up by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials to upgrade the existing highway.

A special team of sub-inspectors led by Chilakaluripeta Urban CI A Srinivas, Rural CI J Srinivas Rao and Narsaraopet Town CI KV Narayana was formed to give protection to survey officials.

NHAI project director Murthy held extensive discussions for two hours with both the groups and sought the cooperation of the bypass favouring committee members not to interrupt the survey.
